I really wish I was writing. In fact, I am writing in my mind. Just not on paper. Which would be better, because writing in one’s mind can be dangerous. For instance, yesterday I came up with the following 2-sentence pitch for the novel I have only barely start writing and almost missed a red traffic light!
When a volcanic eruption marks the end of the world, 16 years old Zoe is left with two problems: what to wear and who to lose her virginity to. Simple enough, if only she wasn’t so darn picky…
Not too bad, I think? If/when I ever finish the novel, I already have my twitter pitch. What else could a non-writing writer want?! Oh yes, to write. I really do want to write, but there are not enough hours in a day. I need to move to a different planet. What is the length of a day on Gallifrey?
On second thought, I do write, just not fiction. Last week I finished my primary school textbook on literature and creative writing. It’s a workbook and textbook in one. The kids read a paragraph or two and then have to answer one or more questions before moving on. There are 8 chapters, each 5 pages long. At the end of the book, the kids will have written their own short story! I already have a publisher for the book. I am meeting with him in september. I am also thinking about translating it into English and trying with a British or American publisher, although I’m not sure how the rights part works with educational books. In any case, here are a couple of sample pages from the book. I already did a lay-out because I like doing lay-outs:
So, no time to write. Only time to work. However, I am hoping to participate in NaNoWriMo again this year and write my novel about Zoe during November. And finish it in December if necessary. I am also strangely intrigued by the idea of renting a cottage in a quiet, forest-y holiday park in a dreadful month like December, Januari or February and doing a writing-week.
Sorry for the lack of posts this month. Please forgive me and let me know what you would like me to write (more) about, if you have some ideas. Thanks!
